Seaboard Kids Self Defence
Helping kids feel safe
The Seaboard Kids Self Defence program blends traditional martial arts with practical, empowering self-defense designed to help students build confidence, discipline, and lifelong safety skills.
Built on a proven 15-year foundation, our classes offer a welcoming environment where children and young people can step away from screens, stay active, and forge strong friendships.
Through structured training in traditional katas, technical forms, and weapons practice, students learn vital personal safety techniques while developing core strength, focus, and resilience that serves them both inside and outside the dojo.

Shihan Corena Mitchell - Chief Instructor
6th Dan Yoshin Kempo
My martial arts journey began at age 11 when I turned to training to overcome school bullying, sparking a lifelong drive that saw me achieve my 1st Degree Black Belt—and ultimately advance to 6th Dan Master (Shihan) over 32 years of dedicated practice.
Passionate about giving young people that same sense of confidence and security, I launched a short 6-week self-defense project 15 years ago to encourage kids to step away from their screens and try something new. What started as a brief course grew into a thriving, long-term community: I have had the privilege of guiding students from their very first steps as four-year-olds all the way to earning their own Black Belts as young adults.
Today, I remain as committed as ever to helping the next generation grow strong, stay safe, and realize their full potential.
